This is a stunning Victorian-era carved golden oak upright piano; it has recently been tuned and plays beautifully. It would be both a decorative addition to any house (old or new) and an everyday piano. My wife and I are downsizing, and must reluctantly sell this wonderful instrument. It is a Clarendon-brand piano, built by the. Clarendon / Haddorff Piano Co. We chose the Clarendon for an in-house restoration project because of its structural stability and tone. The interior restoration on the piano was all in the action , where it received all new bridle straps and preventive maintenance, which is where our technician goes through the action with a fine toothed comb, replacing any worn springs, hammer shanks, etc. The hammers on the piano are in great condition, and did not need to be replaced. After cleaning them, they look as good as new. It does not appear that this piano has been played very much over the years, as there was no deep ridging on the hammers. The tuning pins have excellent torque and the strings are in excellent condition. The piano did not need to be re-pinned or strung. The copper on the original bass strings is in very good condition, which gives the piano a beautiful tone. The cabinet was sent to a professional refinisher. We had the pedals re-plated in nickel. All of the key are original ivory; the black keys are original ebony. The tone is very pleasing. The bass is rich and the treble crisp and clear. It’s a little on the bright side, but not as bright as a new Asian piano. (Haddonfield is in South Jersey, near Cherry Hill and 8 miles from Philadelphia).
