1889 Upright Piano Antique Original Fischer Victorian Wood Selling As Is Wear
Hi, thank you for looking. We’ve tried to get this fixed. Fischer 1800s Rococo Victorian Upright Piano Ivory Keys. Beautiful antique upright walnut and mahogany piano, almost 130 years old from the late 1800s. This was originally sized for a bedroom, a smaller home version for the time period, which saw grand pianos in style. Post Civil War – own a piece of history. The Fischer company began in 1840 and was known for making high quality pianos, made in the USA. The trio of ornamental fretwork designs on the face are gorgeous. Would work to refinish or leave as is for a lovely accent to your home or bar. We are not piano experts. At least one key sticks. Pedals move parts back and forth internally. See photos of the inside with the front fretwork piecing removed – looks like a work of art. All ivory keys appear original. Original 1889 advertisement from Fischer catalogue reads, The Fischer Piano – Style H – Boudoir Upright – In Rosewood Finish, fancy burled walnut and mahogany – 7 1/3 octaves, 3 unisons, Scale A to C, Overstrung Bass, Improved French Grand Action, patented, handsome designs in panels and fretwork, carved Consoles… Patent Pedal Guard, Ivory Keys… At least serviced in the 1970s, info inside. Looks to be in good condition for an old Victorian well over 100 years old – makes us sad to see the knockoff computerized versions out today. Any additional information is appreciated. Beautiful Steinway upright Grand Piano built in 1881, manufactured in New York. Professional restoration was done about 20 years ago; all 88 keys have been replaced. Exterior glossy black finish has minor scratches. The sustain pedal is broken but I have it on site. Piano was tuned and cleaned in 2011. You will need a professional piano mover as this is a heavy (around 500 pounds) item. Dimensions are: 60″ wide, 27″ deep and 52 tall. A gorgeous Victorian Upright Piano. Features a walnut burr case and ornate fretwork front panel with a Beethoven carved medallion along the center. Legs are cabriole in scrolling flare with meticulous carving. Marked James Dace, a piano shop that was founded in Chelmsford, Essed. Opening in 1852, they are still running as one of the oldest piano shops in the country. The perfect fit in any Biedermeier or Art Deco inspired room. Piano Case is in good shape considering age. Antique Victorian Era Piano and bench
Offering a beautiful antique upright pianoforte, that plays and has still has a surprisingly good sound. Research of the history of this particular piano revealed that it was made by Justin Browne, 237-245 Burton Road, London, England in 1881. Pianofortes from this maker prior to 1880, have the initial “H” before Justin. It was displayed in the shoppe of one William Needham at 53 Manfield, in Nottingham, who describes himself as the sole agent for Justin Browne. From there, it ended being transported via steamship to the United States when the family immigrated here in the early part of the Twentieth Century. Fortunately, it was not the Titanic. After that the history becomes sketchy. It apparently changed ownership at few more times and ended up in Austin Texas. Needam, the agent for H. Justin Browne, died on January 5, 1905. He still lived in the flat above his music store on 53 Manfield with his wife, Fanny, at the time of his death, according to the London Gazette. The piano (short for Piano-Forte) was apparently rarely played and has survived in rather amazing condition. It features the delicate, original music holder and brass hardware and candle sconces/candelabras, and walnut burl veneer. The center panel boasts a frieze of an intricately-carved music motif of mandolin, violin, and tambourine surrounded by stylized acanthus leaves and ribbon. The action still functions adequately and the ivory key tops are still intact and white, the genuine ebony sharps are still in pristine condition. This lovely and historical piece would certainly make a fine addition to display in a foyer, museum, or living room. The price is very reasonable for a rare find such as this. Capen Mahogany Victorian Upright Piano
1903 Capen Piano , made in New York. Capen pianos were manufactured by. Of Brockport Manufacturing , New York from about 1890 until the Great Depression era. Capen was known for building elaborately carved pianos made of exotic woods, and they were quite expensive for their time. There is very little information available about the Capen Piano Company, but our archives to show that both Capen and Brockport were owned and controlled by Kurtzman Company. Plays beautiful music, with special pull handle underneath keys , makes it sound like a harp, every rare option!
