Original tapestry Oak matching bench included. Amazing find of a one owner Arts & Crafts piano by Ludwig NY circa 1911 but may be older. The house this was in was a manager’s house from an old logging town out west where we are. When the new owner moved in 15 years ago, she took possession of this instrument. It has been in that house from 1928 to today. Now it is available to anyone! The video shows the piano playing, but the sound is low quality due to the tech used to share the videos. Musical instruments, antique upright restored piano, grade III carved tiger oak
The Ellington was the top of the line for the Baldwin Company, considered the finest American piano maker. The pianos were manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio. I personally chose this piano, manufactured in 1903, to be professionally restored in 2008. The restoration was completed and the piano delivered in AAA Mint – R&R condition in 2009. In other words, it was restored to “as new” condition, both inside and out. At the turn of the 20th century, the best American piano companies manufactured superior, very tall upright pianos. These instruments offered the sound of a grand piano because the size of the harp allowed for long strings and a large soundboard. Those designated as Grade III were intended as show pieces in wealthy homes and performance venues. This Grade III Ellington has a very big voice with a complex, layered tone. The case is made of quarter sawn oak, commonly called “tiger” oak, and has carving on the front and both sides. The pickled oak finish is the same as the original and is a little darker than golden oak. The bench, made new for the piano at the time of its restoration, is also made of quarter sawn oak and finished to match the piano. The piano lamp is about forty years old and made of brass. If you wish to see the piano, I suggest bringing an accomplished musician with you in order to fully appreciate it. Unfortunately, I can no longer play due to health issues. Queen Belle needs to go to someone who plays with mad abandon, as I used to do. I have moved pianos across the continent a couple of times and can recommend a trustworthy experienced shipper. Steinway upright (vertical grand) piano 52 satin mahogany, beautifully restored. This beauty from 1876 features the sound and feel of a grand piano, with a smaller footprint than a grand! I bought it from a family in NJ in 2002. The piano has been in climate-controlled storage — virtually untouched — for the past few years. Now we’re moving to Germany, so I’m unable to take it with. Comes with beautiful matching bench (hinged to store music). Note the glass panels which allows the player to observe the action! Cosmetic flaw (see picture): prior to my ownership of the instrument, one of the decorative support braces is loose. A simple glue job should restore it to normal. The instrument will of course need a re-tuning after being moved into your home or studio, as well as very minor calibration of the action. This listing is only good for 3 weeks (as of July 4th)!
