Antique Steinway Upright Piano, Model 40, with Piano Bench. Amazing construction and craftsmanship. This piano belonged to my grandparents in Chicago. Myers, Florida in 1971. In 1975, my parents moved it back to Chicago, where it has remained in the same home for 44 years. In our home, it was played regularly from the 1970s through the 1990s. Now it only gets played occassionally. My grandmother made the needlepoint cushion, which has always been covered in clear plastic, affixed to the bench. Introduced in 1939, the Model 40 Upright Piano was the first 40 vertical piano offered by Steinway. Steinway wrote’About 1935, it became apparent that if our industry was to survive, it must supply a demand for an attractively styled Vertical piano, and be attractively styled it would have to be as low in height from the floor as possible. The Model 40 was the result of that development. This vintage upright piano was built in 1942 and features a rare Flame Mahogany Burled Wood Hepplewhite Style in a natural mahogany. This attractive styling was offered from between 1940 and 1953. Steinway offered this Model 40 in well over a dozen different case styles including the Hepplewhite, Louis XV and even a Victory Style specifically designed for military use during World War II. Measurements: 40″ tall x 23 3/4″ D x 4′ 9 W. Condition: This is a used piano that is almost 80 years old. At a minimum, it has been moved from Chicago to Florida and back to Chicago. It has some scratches, needs to be tuned, and may need other work. Please examine the photos carefully. The piano is priced accordingly. All items are from a pet-friendly home.
