The caliber of this Steinway piano should be compared to Steinway like the one in The White House. It was ordered by Mr. Rockefeller himself at the turn of the century in the year of 1891, sent to a famous turn of the century custom cabinet maker in NYC by the name of Joseph Cabus and after 2 months was delivered to his home in upstate NY. Piano is encased in stunning Flame satinwood veneer and has a custom made case which includes carved cherubs on the arms, carved cabinetry on legs, lyre and music rack. There really is no tangible value of price we can attach to this magnificent instrument and its history as there is really nothing we can compare it to? In general I’ve rarely ever seen art case model D’s and definitely never seen such a rare custom art case model D owned by someone as famous as JOHN D.
