This is a 2-CD Set featuring the Entire 3/14/90 Cap Centre! Show 20 Live Tracks! – which was available for sale only’ inside’ the Limited Edition G. Spring 1990′ Too’ Box Sets issued in 2014 by Grateful Dead Productions. So, in’ Other’ words… 3/14/90 Cap Centre Show!!! In its sound quality… And a simply Amazing! Release from one of the many Smokin’-Hot! Shows on this Grateful Dead Spring’90 Tour. If you were fortunate enough to catch any of these Magical! The eager anticipation of the Dead Fans was at a new high, and the’ Mighty’ Energy of the Band was just completely infectious – as they were downright ” ON “!!! I was actually lucky-enough so-thankfully! To catch this Incredible! – the ” Loose Lucy ” kick-down Night! – played by the Boys for the Very-First! With Garcia on’ Complete-Fire!!! And, along with the Whole-Band! Too – to be completely-accurate. But yours truly pulled it all off thank you, thank you! , and next thing I knew I was basking in the sheer Glory & Magnificence! Of a Playin’ > Uncle John’s > Drums > Space > Mr. Right along with the ” Loose Lucy “!!! — easily by far… The ” Loudest ” & Craziest! Live crowd response I have’ ever’ heard from not only from a crowd at a Live-Dead Show… At’ Any’ Live Rock & Roll Concert!!! And, for what it’s worth too – at least in my own humble Dead Fan opinion – my view looking back on this Spring’90 Tour isn’t usually the most popular by any stretch of the imagination… , as pretty much everyone seems crazy about the’ Branford’ Show at the Nassau Coliseum. I personally question if’ Brass’ even belongs with Rock & Roll, and especially-with… And, I do well know that others feel otherwise, and quite differently — but, at least to me & my humble Dead Fan ears… 3/14/90 cap Centre Show was indeed The Best! Spring’90 Tour Show – overall, and all things considered. It’s was indeed the’ shortest’ Show, it’s set list doesn’t completely jump out at you other than – the ” Loose Lucy” – naturally… But, ” playing ” wise – I really think it was the very best of the’ Entire’ Tour. There was a little bit nervous energy up there naturally… With all of the Boys, for this ” Tour-Opener ” – and they immediately & completely! Channeled it, and then Hammered! Personally, I even consider this 3/14 Show to be one of the Very-Best! Post-1989′ Grateful Dead Era. I mean for lack of a better way to put it? ” Good Ol’ Grateful Dead ” caliber musicianship & playing… Means it’s All! Meant real serious business all through this 3/14/90 Show, were on Total! And — here indeed is The’ Proof’ in this exceptional pro-released format! Which, only took like 25-Years! But, my goodness – was it ever worth the wait! It is no secret at-all why this Spring 1990 Tour Spring 1990 & Spring’90’ Too’! Was selected for its Amazing! Pro-release, with this 3/14/90 Show definitely being one of the main treasure pieces and to me… To thoroughly prove this fact. Spring Tour’90 performance to say the very-least, and thankfully for us all… This 2-CD Set is clearly one of the Ultimate! Representations of how just well the Band was playing, clicking, sounding & feeling… & Live Rock & Roll Magic!! Grateful Dead Bob Weir Ratdog Live At Roseland Portland 4/25,26/2001 Oregon 2 CD
Bob Weir / Grateful Dead : Ratdog Live At Roseland Theater : April 25 & 26, 2001 (4/25/2001 & 4/26/2001) : Portland, Oregon (OR) : 2001 : 2001 (2001/2001) Grateful Dead Productions 2001 GDP, Inc. Release – GDCD 4082 : 2 CD Set : Out of Print! – and Fans of’ The-Dog’!!! Now, let me tell you here – as this sweet little rarity here is indeed one that you cannot let escape you for any longer! And, fortunately for me… I was inside the House for Both! Of these 4/25 & 4/26 Portland, Oregon Shows – at the Roseland!!! And, I’m also happy to say that I haven’t missed a single Bobby Weir Show in Oregon – since the Grateful Dead stopped playing in 1995. In fact, the last one I did-miss… Was the Weir & Wasserman Show at the La Luna! — in like 1991! Come to think of it too, I don’t think I’ve missed Weir in the entire state of Washington either, dating back to the Good Ol’ G. This guy has had the Pacific Northwest Covered! When it comes to Bobby Ace!! These 2001 Shows were Strong!!!!! They were the’ Tour-Closers’ in fact, and you could just feel it in the sticky & smokey! That Bob & Co. Had it goin’ on. And too, just take a sec to put the’ timing’ in perspective 2001! – and you too can relate to just how Grate! It felt to hear, say… Mission In The Rain! You bet it was Raining Outside!! But, you know – as this was still ” That-Period ” only 6-years after the Band stopped playing, and it was a way-interesting time, not only in seeing how all of the various G. Members projects would evolve, but also… How the Material & the Songs! As he was just hitting the Nail right! I mean this really-was a’ Peak’ Era for this Ratdog unit, if you had to specifically pick-one. And, as we all know… It was the tail-end too of Wasserman in the band, which you know — how can that loss not really hurt & all – R. In the deliveries of these Songs at these Shows? As it was just impressive!! And, Weir was seriously getting after it too – which, really pushed not only the Band… But, the limits of the Crowd too! Way back in 2001? This City was just Filled!! With Deadheads – big time. So, for the West Coast at least — there really could be no better place for Bob & Co. To close up this 2001 Spring Tour. Heck, they even did a’ Group’ Appearance & Signing at Music Millennium over on SE Burnside Street – and… They probably got talked into that somehow, and had no-idea what was coming!! And it was a Total! Like every single Deadhead in Multnomah County & way-way beyond had like there Entire! Vinyl Collection in their hands – for Weir to Sign!!! Dang, as it was pretty-funny, thinking back & all. He was a true-sport about it, but it was just a nuts! Scene, that of course… Had like no organization or control. He looked pretty taxed after that action, but you know… It’s Bob – being just a Cool! As he can be, to make a Fans day. And, I remember thinking – dang, and they’ve got to play tonight? ! ? And, my goodness – did they even surprise me? ! ? I couldn’t have even asked! For more at the 4/25 Show… And then on 4/26? !! — they just Crushed!!! And, I’m talking huge-stuff. This was maybe even beyond the 1996 Eugene stuff that I always really personally treasured – say at Veneta, and at the Hilton Ballroom too! This here was a Brilliant! Decision to release action from this P-Town run. And, the selections are way-impressive too – seeing as how Weir and the powers that be decided to pro-release a 2-CD Set. As it must have been Tough! Taking these 2-Shows to the chopping block, and deciding what to edit. But, they did a really stellar job, for certain. Seal of Dead Dog! Plus, how many Ratdog pro-releases were there ever made? Released on the Grateful Dead Productions (GDCD) label?? ! With Gary Houston Portlander! Point being all across the board? This one is a Tried & True Live-Music!! Grateful Dead Dick’s Picks 21 Volume Twenty One Richmond Virginia 11/1/85 3 CD
Grateful Dead : Dick’s Picks 21 Volume Twenty One : November 11, 1985 (11/1/85 : 11/1/1985) – Richmond Coliseum – Richmond, Virginia (VA)!!! + September 2, 1980 (9/2/1980) – Community War Memorial – Rochester, New York (NY)… 2001 (1980/1985/2001) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. (GDP) – GDCD 4041 -‘ Original! Grateful Dead 1985 Twenty Years So Far!!! Night # 2 Show! At the Richmond Coliseum!!! 1985 Grateful Dead, you either love it or you don’t. I’ve come to that conclusion over the years – and there are two very distinct sides to the Deadhead-Camps of opinion. While some Fans can be critical of some of the Mid-80’s song-material, upbeat-tempos, and Garcia’s slightly grainier voice… Others idolize & treasure this period, can’t get enough, and must track down every note played from this powerful era of the Band’s development. Yes, 20 Years in here – and our heroes are still developing, evolving and growing as musicians!! ? ! I myself, reside in the later camp – live for this high-energy, chance-taking powerhouse G. And have for years & years. However, when I was a kid – I had yet to get’ bit’ by the Mid-80’s bug that my friends were always pushing – but then I was gradually infected. And infected for good. Once I gathered more & more chunks (analog cassettes, to be precise) of both Summer & Fall’85 Tours? I just couldn’t hear enough of this stuff – warts and all. It clearly is a magical, brawny & groundbreaking period for the Band, and I wholeheartedly consider it to be one of the Dead’s four major ” Prime-Eras “. The fact is, there is some youthful vigor to this 20-Year Old Grateful Dead – and they just simply get after it night after night, after night in 1985. Every Band Member has 20-years of playing experience under their belt, and my do they shine. This is without a doubt one of the most ” Rockin’ ” Grateful Dead Eras there ever was. Unlike say 1977, by’85 they have 125 + songs in their rotation, Tons of great original material (along with’ tons’ of great covers), just nailed down. There are brisk transitions, and hard-pushes on jams everywhere. Technology finally caught up with them too, as this was actually the 1st Digital Soundboard recording ever released in the Dick’s Pick Series. Every String-player & Drummer has their favorite toys & tools, and these Guitar & Bass Rigs And Drum-Kits are just ridiculous – top-notch stuff, with the finest unique sounds & tones. And the main topic here that cannot be denied is Garcia’s furious & vicious fret board picking attack, and massive tone. My theory though who really knows? Is that it was a wide-array of insane sounding Boss equipment HM-2 – OD-1 – OC-2, etc. That laid the platform, and he dialed up the silver-faced twin pre-amp up 1 notch on the intensity, and like 2 (or so) notches on the reverb dial. It’s just brisk, glassy & completely awesome. The only other J. Guitar-rig tone this ear-catching after 1985, was probably 1989 – but still, at this point we are talking about the post-MIDI era. I mean come on Folks & Fans everywhere, we are talking about’85 Greek – River Bend – Blossom – SPAC – Merriweather – Ventura – Red Rocks – Kaiser – Tampa – Fox – S. Worcester – Meadowlands – Oakland, etc.. We need a 73-CD Box Set (Like Europe’72) out quickly for this one – but as we all know, this dream unfortunately will probably never happen due to the many points (though, some obviously valid) made stiffly & sternly by the naysayers. I love that Dick Picked this Show for ” Us “!! The mixed-up, multi-surprise set list is just grand. The boys burn the candle at both ends throughout all-three Discs here in VA. Words don’t describe the specifics here, as I’ll just let the music do the talking. However, do prepare yourself & get ready for one of Bobby’s greatest verbal improv’s ever during the midst of a Blistering-Hot! Gloria’ : After that, I just don’t know where my baby went – maybe went up in a space-shuttle, or maybe ran for Pres-i-dent! ? ! You’ve just gotta love this stuff…. Or, like Dick says himself – Caveat Emptor! And remember to turn’ Up’ the Volume Knob – on This-One!!!!! Down & Dirty Good Ol’ ” Mid-’80’s ” Grateful Dead!! Sheer Rock & Roll Muscle!!! Grateful Dead : Dick’s Picks 26 Volume Twenty Six : April 26, 1969 (4/26/1969) – Electric Theater – Chicago, Illinois (IL) & April 27, 1969 (4/27/1969) – Labor Temple – Minneapolis, Minnesota (MN) : 2002 (1969/2002) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. (GDP) – GDCD 4046 :’ Original! 69 Live-Dead with some Amazing! Grateful Dead Productions 1st Issue Printing (GDCD 4046) – Not the Real Gone Re-Issue / Re-Print!! Good Ol’ Grateful Dead Fans!!! Here offered is the Rare’ Original’ 1st Printing! (GDCD 4046) of the Amazing!! Dick’s Picks Volume 26 2-CD Set from both the Electric Theater in Chicago (4/26), and the Labor Temple in Minneapolis (4/27) in 1969. In my personal opinion and also the opinion of many others… This 2 CD release offers Out of This World!!! In both of these Spring’69 Shows the performances are downright aggressive almost vicious! , creative / fresh, and the heavy jamming & song-segue transitions neatly demonstrate the early signs that this was simply a band like no other. I’ve often joked that there’s a small chance that these Shows might very well be the Very-First GREAT!!! Two (2) truly Magnificent! ” time-capsules ” of The Grateful Dead at their early (and arguably) 1st ” Best “. In sharing my personal opinion that this release is (believe it or not) a true candidate for ” Top Five (5) Dick’s Picks ” of the 36 in the Series! Naturally, of course depending on your ear-for-era and personal favorite time-periods & tours – but the powerful nature of this release can simply not be denied. And to think that sheer’69 G. Like this happened on 2-straight nights in 2 different mid-west cities! ? ! I think I want this whole’69 Spring Tour released… The more I think about. Garcia’s Gibson-tone is just flat out raunchy & awesome! Phil pushes the time-structure & jamming pockets like there is no tomorrow – consistently challenging Garcia, who openly welcomes it. Presence & sound-tones of the equipment seem to be ” just-right “, nearly perfect – really. & Mickey ravage the drums with near-perfection – as tempos change, and the band takes some big transitional-chances here – while both of them never even drop a beat. The China Cat > Doin’ That Rag > Cryptical > Other One > It’s a Sin are absolutely mind-blowing, and the Lovelight > Me & My Uncle > Sitting On Top of the World offers brilliant segue-transitions that will likely deliver chills up your spine. Oh, and here’s what Disc 2 has to say about that : Dark Star > St. Stephen > Eleven > Lovelight > Dew!!!!! If you haven’t heard this one, you really need to. And if you don’t already own this one in your collection? – then you might really want to consider doing so – seriously. This release is a flat-out Heater! Where our beloved Grateful Dead have just realized that they really-are-actually ” Just That Good “, and they show it all-night-long here – twice! – in April’69 for some so very fortunate Chicago & Minneapolis crowds. Some truly unreal musicianship is offered here – most definitely. And Thank You Dick for This-One!!! At the Winterland Arena! – in San Francisco!! 2008 (1978/2008) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. / Rhino (GDP / Rhino) : Red-Hot!! Previously unissued Grateful Dead’ Live’ recordings from the October 1978 From Egypt with Love! Bay Area ” Return ” from Egypt’78!!! October 17 & 21, 1978!!!!! Road Trips ” Winterland ” Bonus Disc CD!!! Billed at the time & commonly referred to as the From Egypt with Love! Shows, this Road Trips Bonus Disc CD captures the Band on 10/17/1978 & 10/21/1978 at the Winterland arena in San Francisco during a 5-night’ Homecoming’ from the amazing & surreal experience of playing 3-nights in front of the Pyramids & Sphinx at the Gizah Sound & Light Theater in Cairo, Egypt. This was a fine chance & occasion for the band members to collectively spread the magic that they experienced on that monumental journey. As it also stands, this would be one of the final runs / stands of the Grateful Dead playing the Fan (& Band) favorite Winterland Arena on their Bay Area home-turf. This Bonus Disc CD features tracks from both 10/17/78 & 10/21/78 and is simply fantastic — truly one of the very-finest Road Trips Series’ Bonus Disc’ releases. There is clearly ” love in the air “, and the synergy between the Fans & the Band is captured beautifully in this audio-mix. From a personal standpoint, this is one (if not’ the’) Road Trips Series releases I was most excited to receive when I heard it would be released back in 2008. Not only beautiful & well-played tunes from this Late-’70’s G. ” Era ” like Bertha > Good Lovin’ – Estimated Prophet – He’s Gone – and Around & Around… But this one also features a Mesmerizing! & Historic ” Special-Treat ” in the form of ” If I Had The World To Give “!!! There are many moments on this release that border / equal music perfection – at least to my humble Grateful Dead ears. This is without question a Must-Hear & Must-Have, in my opinion. The He’s Gone here will just make your spine tingle, and Had the World to Give? !! Well, here’s my super-short personal story : I was listening to this song on my 10/17/78 analog tape through the head-phones – naturally… At just before midnight on 8/8/95. After the tune, I hung’em up, turned off the tape-deck and went to bed. The next morning my better half called me letting me know that Jerry had passed. So, even though it can sometimes be a bit tough to hear for me – every today, decades later… I’m all the more grateful to own this legendary live-track in pristine A + quality. Included beautifully on this Bonus Disc, and is a must -hear / must-have, no question. And one of the Finest! Grateful Dead Road Tips Series’ Bonus Disc’ Rarity releases. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a CD with Pigpen on it, and can’t even really think of another Picture Disc CD that features a photo of the Band!! ? ! I find great humor in the fact that Pig’s mug is featured on a CD, because as the legend goes… Both Him & Garcia basically predicted the’ Future’ of Music in the digital format – and in a roundabout way, the future being the Compact Disc!! I read this somewhere long ago, and was fascinated – as I believe it might have been McNally’s Book? Well, this one was issued by Relix Magazine way-back in August 2008, along with that month’s issue – when they were including CD Samplers’ inside’ of the Magazine! Just the CD itself, inside a thin plastic slipcase (as shown in photo the photos). So yes, if you didn’t get this one – and it passed you by at that time, well… Here’s your shot to add this Way-Cool! Philadelphia Civic Center – Philadelphia, PA (8/4-5/1974) – and – Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ (8/6/1974) : Wall of Sound!!!!!!! Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. As it appears 1974 Grateful Dead is indeed fresh on the menu these days – and appears to be right back in Style as if it ever left! As the recent-fashion of the day. A few of the newer releases from the G. Vault are fine performances from 1974 :’74 Dillon Stadium (Hartford, CT) release (DP # 2) –’74 Cap Centre (Landover, MD) – (DP 2012 Bonus Disc) — and’74 University of Montana – Missoula, MT (DP # 9)!!! And, as we already well know, these were the final glorious days of the monstrous & beautifully sounding ” Wall of Sound ” – the massive, and downright-genius Sound System of The Grateful Dead in 1974! It debuted in February’74, and delivered a pristine & unmatched live concert for Grateful Dead Fans like no other. Unfortunately, as the documented stories & proof goes – this beast of a system took a toll on the inner-Grateful Dead Family, both Band & Road Crew too! As fine as it sounded it became a physical, logistical & large financial drain on our heroes yes, you too ” Road Crew ” are our heroes as well – as hopefully you already knew! This system was one of many factors that lead to the darn-near disbanding of the band during the ” hiatus ” period at the end of 1974, following the October Winterland run. Eleven (11) separate Channels! So with that – I’ll inform you of the specific details of how the ” Wall ” does more than its fair-share on this treasure of a G. Disc 1 offers a simply Must hear Playin’, Scarlet & China Rider!!! Wow & that’s just CD 1! ? ! Disc 2 would probably pride itself on the Weather Report > Jam! > Wharf Rat where band communication gets nice & spacey just how we like it! Disc 3 & 4 really duke it out for the top stop, and here’s how : CD Three delivers a He’s Gone > Truckin’ > Jam! > Other One Jam! > Space > Stella Blue that may be some of the finest musical notes & interplay that ever came out of the ” Wall “. Then, if that’s not enough Dead-for-Your-Head, then Disc 4 answers with this, and simply this : Eyes > Playin’ > Scarlet > Playin’ & Uncle John’s Band. So, as it pretty much goes without saying — this release is a Must-hear… & Must-own too for any serious fan who prides themselves on owning every professional release that captures those moments when the band is at their best. Hey up there Dick! Thanks for springing this one on us, yet another hidden-gem from that gold-mine vault of treasures that we never knew existed. Are the absolute-best at these surprises & for that we Thank-You! & are Forever Grateful!! I mean dig-in & Enjoy!!! Blues Sugar Magnolia Casey Jones CD 3 : Mississippi Hefl-Step Uptown Toodeloo > It Must Have Been The Roses Big River He’s Gone > Truckin’ > Jam > Other One Jam > Space > Stella Blue One More Saturday Night CD 4 : Eyes Of The World Playing In The Band > Scarlet Begonias > Playing In The Band Uncle John’s Band. Just so I could admire time & time again where Jerry Did It! I even found a bag of dank in one of the aisles one time under a seat, after a game – I mean… In Good Ol’ Eugene! I even went & saw Bob Dylan in there in the’90’s (a few-times.), so I could closely hear exactly what the acoustics were like inside The Pit!!! – when Jerry did It.
