I chose it originally because it is well known among professionals and the finest upright in the world with sound and touch consistent with the best grand pianos. Completely handmade in Germany, it required many months to obtain this special-order walnut burl finish and the piano is still in perfect condition throughout. It is difficult to photograph as it looks different in different light. Direct light shows off the detailed, matched grained panels. Lower light or indirect lighting gives a darker look but an almost 3-dimensional effect from the grain. Model: Concert 8 full upright. Half of the top lid lifts up for fuller sound. This model’s acoustic assembly, sound volume and as well as its precise and responsive action, will surprise even the most demanding musicians who are used to the touch and sound volume of grands. The acoustic assembly of the C. Bechstein Concert 8 upright is similar to that of the grands made by Beckstein. The sound profile of the Concert 8 upright has even been improved over its predecessor and is handcrafted for concert performance. One of the 3 pedals allows for playing at extremely low but still accurate volumes to avoid disturbing others in the home or next door. Really quite a remarkable characteristic. The entire veneer is from a single log and should you happen to damage it, it can be easily repaired locally. Beckstein can even supply veneer if necessary.
