Danish Hammerspinet Piano Harpsichord Hybrid by Steen Nielsen

Danish piano builder Erik Steen Nielsen designed and patented the Hammerspinet during the 1960s. Due to Nielsen’s untimely death in 1973 only about 400 of these unique instruments were built. The architectural lines combined with the natural grain of the rosewood case creates an object that draws you in at every angle. This compact keyboard offers two unique timbres. The first, a piano with a single string per note, and with the pull of a lever located beneath the key bed the instrument is transformed into “harpsichord mode” which imitates the plucking sound of a harpsichord. Check out this video demo to experience the versatility of this remarkable instrument. This showstopper piece is a secret weapon in any musician’s arsenal, and a standout piece in any studio.
