1941 Steinway model P upright vertical Hepplewhite Pianino 45 inch Studio
1941 Steinway model P. Serial # P 310316. Steinway Model P Walnut case. Origional single family owned. Sure it has wear on it, but I feel that at this price, you will be hard pressed to find any sort of Steinway in playable condition anywhere near this price. Yes it has wear, yes the ends of the keys are chipped, but very playable. Yes Grandma used this to hold vases for years so there are water spots on the walnut in a few places. And yes it is dusty. But the good thing is that no one has butchered it in any way that I can see. This was bought new at Lyon Healy in Chicago by the family’s grandfather right after the war (must have sat on the showroom floor through the war) According to family folklore, the last time that this was tuned was around 1990 by some old timer with a tuning fork – pre digital days, and this was only done because the piano was moved to another home. After the grandparents passed, the piano was moved to a grandson’s home and essentially used only for a plant stand. You can see a few cobwebs on the tuning pegs in the last photo. Cannot make that up. I have looked the soundboard over and have found zero evidence of cracks. Had a piano repair guy look it over also and he had the same conclusion, no cracks in the soundboards. It’s a Steinway, of course the sound is fantastic! I called Steinway and this is what they found in the records. Lyon Healy is a famous Chicago Harp maker that was THE Steinway store in Chicago for a long, long time. Lyon Healy is not affiliated with Steinway any more. This piano is seriously getting close to one of the final pianos made before the war shut Stienway production down. (The government had Steinway make caskets and gun stock parts before finally relenting and letting them make a few hundred “Victory Pianos” for the troops). Steinway calls this a Model P. Used piano dealers now call it an Art Deco model, a Pianino, a Hepplewhite – because of the detailed carving on the front legs. Some refer to this as a Studio. Others a 45 because it is 45 inches tall. Stop by and play it. I’m in the exact center of the City of Chicago 60609. This weighs around 500 lbs or so. I’ll gladly get a few guys together to load it onto anything that shows up. I have this now located in a climate controlled warehouse facility that can handle any sort of vehicle. I moved it with a small UHaul truck that had a ramp. Two of us easily put it onto dollys and pushed it into a small box truck. Fairly simple to move compared to a grand piano. Any questions, just send me a message. The item “1941 Steinway model P upright vertical Hepplewhite Pianino 45 inch Studio” is in sale since Monday, December 31, 2018. Please take that with a grain of salt since these were both 60+ yr old amatuer musicians who were used to playing crappy church pianos that have been beat on in a Chicago church for 100 yrs, but they both raved about the sound and quality.
