Winterland Arena – San Francisco, California (CA) : October 17 & 21, 1978 (10/17/1978 & 10/21/1978) :’ Bonus Disc CD! : 1-CD : Grateful Dead Home Town Bay Area Homecoming! Shows -‘ from’ Egypt 1978! At the Winterland Arena! – in San Francisco!! 2008 (1978/2008) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. / Rhino (GDP / Rhino) : Red-Hot!! Previously unissued Grateful Dead’ Live’ recordings from the October 1978 From Egypt with Love! Bay Area ” Return ” from Egypt’78!!! October 17 & 21, 1978!!!!! Road Trips ” Winterland ” Bonus Disc CD!!! Billed at the time & commonly referred to as the From Egypt with Love! Shows, this Road Trips Bonus Disc CD captures the Band on 10/17/1978 & 10/21/1978 at the Winterland arena in San Francisco during a 5-night’ Homecoming’ from the amazing & surreal experience of playing 3-nights in front of the Pyramids & Sphinx at the Gizah Sound & Light Theater in Cairo, Egypt. This was a fine chance & occasion for the band members to collectively spread the magic that they experienced on that monumental journey. As it also stands, this would be one of the final runs / stands of the Grateful Dead playing the Fan (& Band) favorite Winterland Arena on their Bay Area home-turf. This Bonus Disc CD features tracks from both 10/17/78 & 10/21/78 and is simply fantastic — truly one of the very-finest Road Trips Series’ Bonus Disc’ releases. There is clearly ” love in the air “, and the synergy between the Fans & the Band is captured beautifully in this audio-mix. From a personal standpoint, this is one (if not’ the’) Road Trips Series releases I was most excited to receive when I heard it would be released back in 2008. Not only beautiful & well-played tunes from this Late-’70’s G. ” Era ” like Bertha > Good Lovin’ – Estimated Prophet – He’s Gone – and Around & Around… But this one also features a Mesmerizing! & Historic ” Special-Treat ” in the form of ” If I Had The World To Give “!!! There are many moments on this release that border / equal music perfection – at least to my humble Grateful Dead ears. This is without question a Must-Hear & Must-Have, in my opinion. The He’s Gone here will just make your spine tingle, and Had the World to Give? !! Well, here’s my super-short personal story : I was listening to this song on my 10/17/78 analog tape through the head-phones – naturally… At just before midnight on 8/8/95. After the tune, I hung’em up, turned off the tape-deck and went to bed. The next morning my better half called me letting me know that Jerry had passed. So, even though it can sometimes be a bit tough to hear for me – every today, decades later… I’m all the more grateful to own this legendary live-track in pristine A + quality. Included beautifully on this Bonus Disc, and is a must -hear / must-have, no question. And one of the Finest! Grateful Dead Road Tips Series’ Bonus Disc’ Rarity releases. Grateful Dead Dick’s Picks 8 Volume Eight Binghamton NY Harpur 5/2/1970 3 CD
Grateful Dead : Dick’s Picks 8 Volume Eight : May 2, 1979 (5/2/1970) – Harpur College – Binghamton, New York (NY) : 3 CD : 1997 (1970/1997) Grateful Dead Records / Grateful Dead Merchandising, Inc. (GDR / GDM) – GDCD 4028 :’ Original! Dick’s Picks release with’ Both’ Electric! In fact, the’ Only! Dick’s Picks with’ Acoustic’ Grateful Dead!!!!! Good Ol’ Grateful Dead! , now that’s like a Pavlov’s Dog word to many Deadheads that will make their mouths well, ears! For many analog (& probably reel-to-reel too) tape collectors, both the 5/2/70 & 11/6/77 shows were very well circulated – often with above-average pristine sound. These tapes were basically cherished possessions of fans for both 27 & 20 years respectively, way-back in 1997 when this fabulous Dick’s Picks Volume 8 hit the shelves in record stores fortunate enough to receive it. Just like the 11/6/77 Show represents the Grateful Dead at their absolute best in 1977 — this 5/2/70 show represents the band at their absolute-best in 1970. And unlike in 1977, you have the glorious inclusion of a beautiful’ Acoustic’ set – in addition to two aggressive & sometimes heavy! Yet still very musically poised’ Electric’ sets — and last but not least, you also have Pigpen!!! Yeah, that always helps!! This 3-CD Set simply represents The Grateful Dead at a musical crossroads, which could also be considered their ” 1st Big Prime ” – and to many-many Fans… It is indeed the Grateful Dead at their very-best. Words can’t really describe this one, and it makes complete sense why this is the favorite Dick’s Picks release of many Deadheads… Including a Deadhead you have probably heard of, or might know? His name is Dick! He himself referred to DP # 8 as The Show Of All Shows! Not certain if that opinion & claim ever did change? It makes perfect sense to me. This show is a ridiculous Heater!!! I know many people consider DP #29 (5/19/77 & 5/21/77) their favorite Dick’s Picks release, but because that one is two (2) complete shows and six (6) full discs! , I do believe it is safe to consider this comparison just a bit of an unfair-fight. Hey, but the reality is – the three (3) CD’s in this set could probably hold their own against almost any 3-CD’s there are! – and not I’m just talking’ about in the Dick’s Picks Series… No joke at all here – take listen for yourself! Sincerely, if you have not heard this 5/2/70 performance – please take my advice and take care of that. You owe it to yourself & will be absolutely delighted if you love your ” Good Ol’ Grateful Dead “! This one is truly Un-believable! Show # 1 (of 8) from the Very-Rare! Out of Print Spring’90 Too ” The Other One ” Box Set!! Show #1 from the Grateful Dead Spring 1990 Too (The Other One) Box Set! The 1st Show & ” Tour-Opener “!! 3-Show stand at the Capital Centre in Maryland on 3/14/90 – the 1st Tour-Stop! Of the Spring 1990 Tour!! Offered here is a very-rare & awesome chance to acquire the Grateful Dead Spring 1990′ Too’ (The Other One) 3/14/1990 Capital Centre – Landover, Maryland (MD) Show!!! This is a 2-CD Set featuring the Entire 3/14/90 Cap Centre! Show 20 Live Tracks! – which was available for sale only’ inside’ the Limited Edition G. Spring 1990′ Too’ Box Sets issued in 2014 by Grateful Dead Productions. So, in’ Other’ words… 3/14/90 Cap Centre Show!!! In its sound quality… And a simply Amazing! Release from one of the many Smokin’-Hot! Shows on this Grateful Dead Spring’90 Tour. If you were fortunate enough to catch any of these Magical! The eager anticipation of the Dead Fans was at a new high, and the’ Mighty’ Energy of the Band was just completely infectious – as they were downright ” ON “!!! I was actually lucky-enough so-thankfully! To catch this Incredible! – the ” Loose Lucy ” kick-down Night! – played by the Boys for the Very-First! With Garcia on’ Complete-Fire!!! And, along with the Whole-Band! Too – to be completely-accurate. But yours truly pulled it all off thank you, thank you! , and next thing I knew I was basking in the sheer Glory & Magnificence! Of a Playin’ > Uncle John’s > Drums > Space > Mr. Right along with the ” Loose Lucy “!!! — easily by far… The ” Loudest ” & Craziest! Live crowd response I have’ ever’ heard from not only from a crowd at a Live-Dead Show… At’ Any’ Live Rock & Roll Concert!!! And, for what it’s worth too – at least in my own humble Dead Fan opinion – my view looking back on this Spring’90 Tour isn’t usually the most popular by any stretch of the imagination… , as pretty much everyone seems crazy about the’ Branford’ Show at the Nassau Coliseum. I personally question if’ Brass’ even belongs with Rock & Roll, and especially-with… And, I do well know that others feel otherwise, and quite differently — but, at least to me & my humble Dead Fan ears… 3/14/90 cap Centre Show was indeed The Best! Spring’90 Tour Show – overall, and all things considered. It’s was indeed the’ shortest’ Show, it’s set list doesn’t completely jump out at you other than – the ” Loose Lucy” – naturally… But, ” playing ” wise – I really think it was the very best of the’ Entire’ Tour. There was a little bit nervous energy up there naturally… With all of the Boys, for this ” Tour-Opener ” – and they immediately & completely! Channeled it, and then Hammered! Personally, I even consider this 3/14 Show to be one of the Very-Best! Post-1989′ Grateful Dead Era. I mean for lack of a better way to put it? ” Good Ol’ Grateful Dead ” caliber musicianship & playing… Means it’s All! Meant real serious business all through this 3/14/90 Show, were on Total! And — here indeed is The’ Proof’ in this exceptional pro-released format! Which, only took like 25-Years! But, my goodness – was it ever worth the wait! It is no secret at-all why this Spring 1990 Tour Spring 1990 & Spring’90’ Too’! Was selected for its Amazing! Pro-release, with this 3/14/90 Show definitely being one of the main treasure pieces and to me… To thoroughly prove this fact. Spring Tour’90 performance to say the very-least, and thankfully for us all… This 2-CD Set is clearly one of the Ultimate! Representations of how just well the Band was playing, clicking, sounding & feeling… & Live Rock & Roll Magic!!
