Once declared the “Official New York State Piano”, this instrument features a carved version of the famous Greek painting by Alma-Tadema entitled “Sappho and Alcaeus”. FINISH: Honduran Mahogany Wood. This is one of the most impressive and uniquely designed upright pianos ever produced in America. The “Roman Model G” upright was so impressive that it was designated as the “Official New York State Piano”! Not only is it a superb quality instrument, but the cabinet detail is quite beautiful as well. Please see this link for more information about the painting depicted in the carved frieze. Because the “Roman Model G” was so expensive, only a wealthy few could afford such a luxury. As a result, this model is exceedingly rare today. No expense was spared with this design; note the unusually large carved pillars, trusses and legs. Also note the ornate sterling silver key cover handle and keyhole escutcheon. This instrument is overall a large and handsome instrument which makes quite a statement in person. The Sound is beautiful, but it will probably will need to be tuned.
