1939 Original Story & Clark Storytone Electric Piano and Bench
A rare and historically important instrument, the RCA Storytone piano was built in 1939 in a joint venture between Story & Clark and RCA. The first American electric piano, it debuted at the 1939 World’s Fair. It has an art deco/streamline design that rivals that of the finest furniture of the era. The piano has normal strings and action but no soundboard — this Storytone has electromagnetic pickups and a speaker system. When amplified, it works especially well for sustained styles of playing, and sounds much more like a real piano than a Rhodes, Wurlitzer or Helpinstill, and fuller and thicker than a Yamaha CP-70 or Kawai EP-308. However, this particular Storytone is missing its amp/PSU. This Storytone piano comes with an original “standard” Storytone bench (NOT the one shown in the pictures with the piano; it’s the one in the other five pictures). We have another Storytone piano available for a few hundred dollars more, and it has its original tube amp and power supply, and the electronics on that one are restored and fully functional. However, the back board cover on that other Storytone is ripped off (cosmetic damage only, no functional effect on the instrument, most people place the back of the piano against the wall anyway). We have it in a separate Reverb listing. We are open to “mixing and matching” certain parts between the two pianos.

Yamaha CP-80 Vintage Electric Baby Grand Piano
Yamaha CP-80 Electric Baby Grand Piano? The Yamaha CP-80 was released in 1976 and was discontinued in 1985. It is an electric baby grand with the dynamic and natural sounds of the piano as it has a real keyboard action with strings but without soundboard. Instead, the sound is generated through a sophisticated piezo type pick-up system that translates the vibrating strings into electric signals. The advantage is that the sound thus has an effective electronic amplification which is very useful for touring purposes. The CP-80 has been used by many professional musicians over the years on the stage and in the studio. This CP-80 would be best suited to someone looking for a professional electric grand to use at home or on the road. It would also suit a professional studio or entertainment company looking to widen their repertoire. Condition. This is a used unit.. Physically the unit is in good condition. It shows some wear from use and age. This includes some light scratches and scuffs and some light surface oxidation on the latches and in other small sections. This wear is not major and does not affect the use or sounds of this beautiful piano. ? . This piano includes the lids for the top and bottom half. Sadly they were not supplied when we received this item second hand. This unit has been cleaned inside and it has an authentic piano feel across all of the keys. The electronics were also checked and tested. The unit is fully functional and a pleasure to use. The CP-80 does not need to be powered on to produce sound and can be used powered off to practice quietly. We recommend this be done once the CP-80 is installed in its new location. ? . This unit powers off a an adaptor. The adaptor supplied is 240V. ? . This electric grand is large and heavy. About an hour from Sydney City. Only 150 were believed to be made, even fewer exist today. This is the first commercially available electric piano, it first debuted at the 1939 World’s Fair. The case was designed by John Vassos, the famous American industrial designer and done so in an art deco design. This piano and bench are in all original condition, The piano has normal strings and action but no soundboard — the sound is amplified through electromagnetic pickups.
