Antique C. Bechstein Piano Upright Grand
The Bechstein piano is the most sought after antique piano bar none! The sound is incredible! When I found this piano 19years ago it was still 100% original condition, even original strings! I learned a lot by speaking with Courtney Pianos in Germany about this piano when I got it. I was told that restoring the exterior would reduce the value so the outside is still all original! It’s got its scratches & chips & dings, but I think it looks great as is. I’m not a foremost authority on these model numbers. Courtney Pianos said with only 85 keys the number would be on the soundboard shown 2794 making this a 1867 Upright , straight strung grand piano that was built while Carl Bechstein was still building them one at a time! They say he produced about 15 pianos a year back then. I had a local piano tuner tell me the number on the inner side board was the serial number also shown 20422 which according to the chart makes it an 1887 piano. Personally I believe Courtney Pianos in Germany, but again, I’m not the expert. Whether it’s 150yrs old or 130, it looks awesome for it’s age! I wanted a piano that had the sound more than looks & this definitely has a jaw dropping sound. I also prefer the vintage look over the “brand new” look so this was my obvious choice. The action assembly has been fully restored with new springs, catches, etc. The hammers are still all original and in excellent shape. About a dozen or so strings had to be replaced to be properly tuned. I’m moving and can’t take this with me so I’d love to find it a new owner before I go. 1911 Lauter Upright Grand Player Piano
Beautiful piano to look at and listen to! The player mechanism has been preserved as pneumatic, but was converted to electric. You can use this player the old fashioned way or the push button way. The player mechanism works really well. I have over 100 rolls that are included. It was manufactured in Newark, New Jersey in 1911. It was refinished and restored approximately 30 years ago. The exterior cabinet is beautiful and has been well preserved. San Domingo Mahogany and English Burl Walnut finish. It is not a great piano to play. When I play it, some keys stick and it has a “tough” touch. The sustain pedal does not work. This is a great piano to entertain people with using the rolls. It is great for parties and sing a longs! 1890’s Newman Brothers Victorian Overstrung Upright Grand Piano #13762
Newman Brothers Company of Chicago overstrung upright grand piano, serial number 13762. He looked it over and said it is still able to be tuned (we chose not to have it tuned at the time), which apparently becomes an issue in old pianos. Keys are not ivory. It has been my mothers for about 33 years now, and she had it fully restored when she got it. Other than a handful of keys being slightly out of tune, the piano tech said he could not see any other issues with it. It has gotten minimal use over the decades, and has been mostly a novelty piece of furniture. It resides about 12ft from the first-level front door. If you need more pics, just let me know. Size measures 63.5″ long at the very top piece, but main body length is 61.5″, 56″ tall, 28″ wide from back to front-most, and weighs probably about 400-500lbs.
