Grateful Dead Dick's Picks 3 Volume Three Pembroke Pines FL 5/22/77 1977 UK 2 CD
Grateful Dead : Dick’s Picks 3 Volume Three : May 22, 1977 (5/22/1977) – Sportatorium – Pembroke Pines – Florida (FL) : 2 CD : GDCD2 4022 : 1995 (1977/1995) Grateful Dead Records / Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. (GDR / GDP) – Very-Rare! Made In The UK! May 1977 Grateful Dead!!!!! Wow, way-back now – or at least I suppose. That’s when this one was released & the circumstances were as very-strange as they ever could ever possibly be, as my memory distinctly serves me. We were all devastated, and busy trying to lick a wound that we knew deep down would never heal. Jerry Garcia died on 8/9/1995, and this was the 1st ” Dick’s Picks ” released after his untimely passing. DP # 3 (5/22/77) was released in November’95, and normally this well-anticipated trip over to the CD Store would be like waiting for Santa Claus! To come to town, but – not this time. So, I still made the journey though, because I needed at least something in a feeble attempt to soothe the devastating situation at hand. Well knowing this could be good or bad, happy or sad. It ended up being lots of every emotion possible, quite naturally… But oh my goodness, what a monster release by Dick!!! ? ! I mean are you kidding me? ! ? I always had a real fondness for’77 Dead, and when I was a kid I would claim that I thought it was indeed the Grateful Dead at their ” Absolute-Finest “. I swore-by’77 Grateful Dead – and still do, of course. Over the years, my opinion has been all over the board as times & my musical tastes change – but there still is no denying 1977 as one-of (if not’ the’) best overall year for the Band. I had a majority of’77 in my cherished analog collection, and thankfully had a few very connected folks that looked out for me when it came to my’77 addiction… But when I got my hands on this 2-CD set, I was absolutely blown back – a truly Beyond-Powerful performance!! I guess some of it was that I strangely had yet to even hear it? But the two-track stereo sound was mind-blowing from a channel / separation standpoint. I mean this performance is right up there with the Binghamton’s – Buffalo’s – St. Louis’ – Manor Downs’ – Ithaca’s – Winterland’s, etc.. Of the’77 World. CD One gives you no-mercy & straight up cooks! With burning versions of Music – Lightning > Supplication – Dancin’ & Help > Slip! Then CD Two actually delivers yes, it’s true… ” Very-Best Grateful Dead I had ever heard “. Up there on the very ultra! Outside of a Rockin’ Samson, and incredibly-deep & exploratory versions of Estimated > Eyes — here comes the real doozie : Two (2) of the finest segue / song transitions in Grateful Dead History. I won’t discuss the specifics, or details because only the music itself can do that properly naturally… But what happens during Wharf Rat > Terrapin > Morning Dew is simply live-musical-perfection, and in a completely genius fashion! These are really the only words I can think of to use & explain… As truly, this is the kind of music that really cannot be’put’ into words – as to try, is to almost do it an injustice. This is really just that good. This piece of Grateful Dead’ Live’ History… DP # 3 — one of the Very-Very Best Ever! To this very day. The crazy-rare “UK Printing” GDCD2 4022’Made In The UK format!!
