A rare and historically important instrument, the RCA Storytone piano was built in 1939 in a joint venture between Story & Clark and RCA. The first American electric piano, it debuted at the 1939 World’s Fair. It has an art deco/streamline design that rivals that of the finest furniture of the era. The piano has normal strings and action but no soundboard — this Storytone has electromagnetic pickups and a speaker system, and its original tube amplifier and power supply. T works especially well for sustained styles of playing, and sounds much more like a real piano than a Rhodes, Wurlitzer or Helpinstill, and fuller and thicker than a Yamaha CP-70 or Kawai EP-308. This RCA Storytone comes with the original “deluxe” bench with turntable and radio inside. If you want it “retouched” (rather than fully refinished) to keep its original patina, we can give a 10% discount. This is an Art Deco style Iron Frame, Overstrung and under damped Challen with a keyboard of 7 octaves. Challen is a well respected piano maker. This is the smaller traditional piano they made, dating to the 1940’s. This model of piano was famously used by the Beatles in Abbey Road studios. If you search ” beatles and Challen piano” you will find out all about it.. The case is a mahogany finish, the casework does have some marks and shows signs of use. It has just been serviced, regulated, voiced and tuned to concert Pitch (A440) and suitable for a beginner to do a few grades. Rare and fun 1935 (approx) Wurlitzer ” Tom Thumb” piano. Wonderful little piece, 61 keys, original ivories in excellent condition. All original parts, (except the bench), beautiful golden soundboard with Wurlitzer embossed, serial # 139251 dating it to appox 1935. Dampers, pedals and keys all in working order, but not tuned or worked on years. Piano was owned by one family from 1964 to present; Philadelphia. There are two pieces of veneer missing on the left side, next to keyboard and left bottom base to post. Easily replaced if restoration is planned. The piano casing is in very good vintage condition, from the back you can see the two built in handles to move the piano. Feet move readily and the piano can be rolled from one location to another.
